Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I accept Aetna insurance. If you have a different insurance plan, I provide a “super bill” for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Coverage for out-of-network services can vary, so I always recommend calling your insurance provider directly to ask about your out-of-network benefits, reimbursement rates, and any deductibles you may need to meet.

What is the difference between in-network (INN) and out-of-network (OON) benefits?
In-network benefits apply when your therapist has a contract with your insurance company, meaning your sessions are typically covered at a higher rate and with lower out-of-pocket costs (like copays). Out-of-network benefits apply when your therapist doesn’t have a contract with your insurance. In this case, you pay the full fee upfront, and if you have out-of-network benefits, you may get partial reimbursement by submitting a claim (such as a super bill).

What is a super bill?
A super bill is an itemized receipt that includes all of the information your insurance company needs to process your claim. It includes details like the service provided, dates, and the amount paid. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you can submit the super bill to your insurance company for partial reimbursement of the session cost. Be sure to ask your insurance provider what percentage they cover for out-of-network therapy and if there are any specific requirements for submission.

How long are sessions?
Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes, but I adjust session length based on individual needs. During our initial free phone consultation, we’ll discuss goals and decide on a structure that works best for you.

Why a consultation call?
I offer a free phone consultation to ensure that we’re a good fit before starting therapy. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions about my approach and share what you’re looking to work on in therapy. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components of good therapy, It’s important to me that you feel comfortable moving forward prior to a full 50 minute session.

What should I expect in the first session?
The first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll talk about your history, your current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. It’s a chance for us to build a foundation for our work together. The pace and depth of the session is guided by you.
